When it comes to getting the most out of each working day, hitting the ground running, as a team, can make a huge difference. No matter how many of your team members woke up on the wrong side of the bed, it's possible to reel in individual moods and feelings by solidifying a sense of group optimism and focus from the moment your people walk in the door. Want to know how? Read on for some easy-to-implement, super-effective ideas.

Run together

A team that runs together, stays together. An office running team is a fantastic way to keep on top of your people's wellbeing. In addition to being a brilliant cardiovascular workout, running can elevate mood by boosting levels of stress busting hormones in the brain. No wonder so many teams at Best Companies Accredited organisations love to run together!

Share a smoothie

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating healthily first thing can improve performance, regulate blood sugar levels and even help with weight control. Make sure that your employees aren't skimping on nutrients before making it to their desks, by getting everyone together for a morning superfood smoothie. Take turns to concoct the most delicious and nutritious breakfast in a glass, and watch faces light up.

Meditate

Many prominent business people cottoned on to the many benefits of meditation long ago. Simple forms of secular meditation such as mindfulness have been shown to reduce stress levels whilst boosting creativity and energy. Take just 10 minutes at the start of every working day to meditate together. You'll be amazed at the difference.

Gratitude moment

Counting our blessings is often easier said than done, but it is a practice which can send powerful positive signals to the brain. Recent scientific studies show that actively cultivating gratitude in our daily lives can improve both physical and mental health. Ask your staff to write down three things that they're grateful for every morning, and to keep the piece of paper on their desk throughout the day to remind them. Or why not have a shared gratitude whiteboard or online feed?

Just say hi

As a leader, it's important to have a presence at the start of the day, as often as possible. The simple act of just saying “hi” to your people, and checking in with them on a casual, personal basis, can work wonders for engagement. Not only does it show that you care, it offers team members a valuable opportunity to raise any questions or concerns which may otherwise colour their day if left unsaid. When it comes to starting every day in a positive way, it's the simple things that make all the difference.
